October's talk will be delivered by Peter Thorne:
Peter Thorne is director of the Irish Climate Analysis Research Units at Maynooth University. Prior to that he has worked for the UK Met Office, US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Centre. He is currently leading the Horizon 2020 GAIA-CLIM project and a Copernicus Climate Change Service contract on global land and marine observation databases, and is a member of an additional H2020 INTAROS project and two further Copernicus Climate Change Service contracts. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles on a range of climate change topics. He was a lead author on both the Working Group1 contribution to the fifth assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the 2014 US National Climate Assessment. He is Chair of the International Surface Temperature Initiative, Co-chair of the Global Climate Observing System Reference Upper Air Network, and Chair of the Commission for Climatology’s Rapporteurs for observational matters. He is a member of the Expert Advisory Group for the Citizens Assembly climate theme.
