We are delighted to announce that our speaker for May is Evelyn Cusack, Head of forecasting in Met Éireann. With summer just around the corner the topic is 'Be Summer Ready' . Evelyn will talk about the public safety element of forecasting, which is important even during the summer months. Evelyn will touch on water safety, solar UV etc to make the best use of weather forecasts for this staycation summer. She will explain how and why we now name storms, how to get a seven day forecast for any lake in Ireland as well as all the Islands around our coasts and introduce the new Met Éireann 3-day Marine Warnings.
Evelyn has been on the committee of the Irish Met Society at various stages since she joined Met Éireann in 1981 and has held several offices including Secretary. In 2018 Evelyn was awarded the European Meteorological Society’s Biennial award for European Broadcast Meteorologist for her work with the Irish Meteorological Society, the Media, schools etc in promoting an interest in meteorology and the scientific method in society at large.
