6 General Discussion
Ray Bates’s legacy was discussed, there was agreement that Ray was brilliant scientist, a true gentleman who was subject to unwarranted personal abuse for his later scientific output which he took in a dignified manner. A personal tribute to Ray submitted by a fellow member is attached. The committee will seek to have a speaker on the topic of climate sensitivity.
It is hoped to organize a field trip next year and possibly another outing in the Dublin area. The table quiz will be held on Thursday 30th January, in McGowans of Phibsboro, it was suggested that a city centre venue might be more suitable, but arrangements are already made for the event in January. We will continue to arrange a mix of in-person and zoom talks, with recordings and/or slides made available and will consider if there are other suitable venues to hold talks.
Evelyn has organized bespoke umbrellas for the Society, which will be made available for purchase by members at cost and for promotion of the Society.
